What Drives Me & the Work I do

A home office with a desk, a white ergonomic chair, a computer, a monitor, and various items on the desk. There is a bulletin board on the wall with images and notes. A window with blinds shows a winter landscape outside. To the right, a lamp on a side table provides warm lighting. A calendar with a mountain and lake design hangs on the wall. A dog is resting on a pet bed beneath the window.
A wooden bookshelf with multiple compartments filled with books, a white desk chair, a window with blinds, a small side table with a lamp, and a bed with pillows in a cozy room.
A cluttered desk with toys, bottles, and a book titled 'The Pocket Universal Principles of Design' by William Lidwell, Krisina Holden, and Jill Butler. Toys include Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Spider-Man, Luigi, and Scooby-Doo. There is a large lamp with a figure of Mr. Incredible from The Incredibles holding the lampshade, and other small decorative items.

Cow pastures and chicken farms. That’s pretty much where I grew up in rural NC. The days were spent building forts in the woods, picking muscadine grapes, decorating with as many Christmas lights as possible, drawing comics… It’s difficult to remember a time when I wasn’t planting, catching, crafting, or drawing.

II do remember a Rubicon moment in my creative curiosity though. One Christmas I was given a Canon miniDV camera and the first project was, of course, trying to make myself hold a lightsaber. I did this by painting each video frame (there are

30 of them each second) in Microsoft paint and then putting it all together in a video editor.

The result was slightly less exciting than watching a re-re-rerun of the Price is Right but I was hooked!

I made mini-movies of everything! From a micro remote-control car driving through a vast maze of recycled items, to excessively long vacation documentaries, to a 3-part action movie (that never saw the final installment, thank goodness).

Fast-forward through college and I earned a B.S. in Philosophy and Religion, an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling… and when my wife and I moved, I made my graphic design hobby of the past 10+ years into a full-time job instead!

I’ve worked in a host of mediums and for a range of companies and industries and now freelance and sell my own work. I’m a firm believer that we should create because it’s something the world needs.

I take pride in the work I do and see design as a way to serve others. During a website reveal, a client surprisingly stated the she “felt loved” because of the beauty and care taken in the details. That’s one of the highest compliments I’ve even been paid.

I’d love to partner with you to bring the visuals to your vision and look forward to hearing what you have cooking.
